Does Wegovy make you tired? Why fatigue happens and how to fix it

The short answer

Fatigue is commonly reported on Wegovy (semaglutide), especially early and after dose increases. It is usually indirect: a sharp drop in intake, blood-sugar dips, dehydration, and sleep disrupted by nausea, rather than the drug sedating you.

Eating enough with adequate protein, staying hydrated, keeping blood sugar steady, and protecting sleep address most of it. Fatigue tends to ease with adaptation. Severe or persistent fatigue with other symptoms should be checked.

Does Wegovy make you tired?

Many people feel more tired in the first weeks on Wegovy, and again for a few days after each dose increase during titration. Tiredness is a recognized, commonly reported effect. But it is not usually the drug directly sedating you; it is mostly the downstream effects of how strongly semaglutide suppresses appetite. That matters, because the drivers are things you can act on.

Why fatigue happens on semaglutide

  • A big calorie deficit. When appetite falls sharply, intake often drops fast. Less fuel means less energy while your body adjusts.
  • Low or swinging blood sugar. Eating little and irregularly can leave blood sugar low, which feels like fatigue and brain fog. It is more pronounced if you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea.
  • Dehydration. Less appetite usually means drinking less, and mild dehydration is tiring by itself.
  • Disrupted sleep. Nausea and reflux fragment sleep quietly, and poor sleep reliably drives daytime fatigue.
  • Low protein and micronutrients. Falling short on protein, iron, or B12 over weeks drags energy down.

What helps

Address the drivers rather than pushing through. Eat regular, protein-forward meals even when you are not hungry, and do not let intake collapse. Keep fluids up through the day. If you get shaky, sweaty, lightheaded spells and take insulin or a sulfonylurea, treat it as possible low blood sugar and speak to your prescriber. Protect sleep, and ask your clinician to check iron, B12, and thyroid if fatigue is stubborn. Our general GLP-1 tiredness post and the tirzepatide fatigue post cover the same ground.

Does Wegovy fatigue go away?

For most people, yes. It is most noticeable in the first weeks and after each dose step-up, then eases as the body adapts to eating less and to that dose. Some people find energy actually improves once weight comes down and habits settle. If fatigue is severe, does not improve, or comes with a racing heart, breathlessness, or feeling faint, see a clinician promptly. Logging energy against your dose days and intake in DoseLog reveals whether it tracks your titration or your lowest-food days.

Questions people ask

Does Wegovy make you tired?

Feeling tired is commonly reported on Wegovy, especially in the first weeks and after dose increases. It is usually indirect, from eating much less, blood-sugar dips, dehydration, and disrupted sleep, rather than the drug directly sedating you.

Why am I so tired on Wegovy?

Common contributors are a sharp calorie deficit, low or swinging blood sugar, mild dehydration, sleep fragmented by nausea, and undereating protein or micronutrients. Together these explain most Wegovy fatigue, and each is addressable.

Does Wegovy fatigue go away?

For most people it eases as the body adapts to eating less and to each dose, being most noticeable early and after dose increases. Some feel more energetic once weight comes down. Severe or persistent fatigue should be checked.

Does Wegovy give you energy?

Not directly; it is not a stimulant. Early on it more often causes tiredness through appetite loss and low intake. Many people do feel more energetic later, once weight is down and eating and sleep have settled.
